If Wishes Came True...

Happy New Year to everyone!! (Socokitten this pic is for you). Just like at Disneyland, people all over the world celebrated the beginning of a New Year, complete with new expectations and new problems. Here are some of my own wishes for the New Year.....
1) I wish that our troops could come home from the illegal war that they are forced to fight and give their lives for.
2) I wish that people would stop freaking out about the damn bird flu. There are hundreds of viral diseases out there that already kill people. Why don't we concentrate on them?
3) I wish that Northern Ireland would know lasting peace this year. War begets war and hate begets hate, there are no exceptions. Enough have died, let it be.
4) I wish that, instead of disease, we would have mass outbreaks of compassion. Compassion for our fellow man. There should not be any hunger on this planet. No one should go hungry, anywhere, anytime.
5) I wish that we would see that our enemy isn't Muslim, Hindu, Pakistani, Jewish, or Black. Our enemy is ignorance. It is ignorance that starts war. It is ignorance that breeds poverty and disease. Ignorance of one another, of basic health concepts, just plain, unadulterated ignorance.
I leave you with this New Year's Poem. May 2006 be the best year yet for all of mankind.
It's New Years again, and I would expect,
It's time for agendas, and time to reflect.
A time to take inventory, of the year just past,
And a time to confront, our errors at last.
A time to recall, those no longer here,
A time to remember, a time to revere.
A time to resolve, for the year now new,
To change or adjust, those things we will do.
A time to change habits, and really we should,
convert them all please, from bad ones to good,
A time to thank God, who made night and morning,
To see a new day, and enjoy a new dawning,
It's time for us all, to seize the gold fleece,
Release sparkles of stardust, of love and new peace.
A time to embrace, all those we hold dear,
To hold them, and wish them, "A Happy New Year!"
Above all else, readers, I wish you humor, without it, everything is too much.

Deanna, your post is so beautiful! What a nice reflective way to look at the new year. Much better than my new years resolutions are pointless rampage!
What is up with people being so damn scared of the bird flu?! The bird flu scare is just a confusionary tactic from the Bush administration to keep us always too frightened to question authority.
I wish that, instead of disease, we would have mass outbreaks of compassion. Compassion for our fellow man. There should not be any hunger on this planet. No one should go hungry, anywhere, anytime.
Beautiful sentiment, beautifully written.
Best wishes for 2006.
